The Chicago High School Classic was created by windycityhshoops.com founder Kevin Devitt. The Classic features thirty of Illinois' best high school basketball players; not only are they phenomenal basketball players but great students who contribute to their communities. One of the spots for the Classic has been reserved for a student-athlete who embodies what high school is all about, getting good grades, a major positive influence in their high school, and a role model in their community. Many of the participants will be continuing their education and basketball careers at some of the top Division I programs in America.
Last year the game was presented on Comcast TV featured the game as the Prep Game of the Week, and covered by Chicagoland's local media, and this year the coverage will grow, the game will again be featured on TV and many newspapers will be sending reports to cover the game, in addition this year the game will be on the radio. Last year's version was an exciting nail biter as the North squad walked away with a 116-114 victory in a game that featured 5 dunks and 29 three pointers.
What makes the Chicago High School Classic special is the team play and vast representation from Illinois' top high schools. It is evident by the different high school jerseys that are represented during the game how the Chicago High School Classic is truly a unique experience. The Chicago High School Classic is simply our way of sending off each senior class to college with a bang after their hard work and dedication to their high school teams. And to truly give each participant one last feel of high school basketball the game will be played on a Friday night (April 4, 2008, 7:30p) at Niles North High School.
The festivities for the Chicago High School Classic will be the Champps Slam Dunk Contest, where the players' dunks will judged by local media representatives as well as local celebrities. New this year will be the 3-point shootout.
